Parkhurst Witness To Horrible Show of Sportsmanship

Michael Parkhurst and FC Nordsjælland were on their way out of the UEFA Champions League prior to today’s match with Shakhtar Donetsk.  They have secured only one point in group play and are now a -13 in goal differential.

Shakhtar would cruise to a 5-2 victory with Parkhurst playing the full match.  He received a yellow card in second half stoppage time, one of only three cards his team amassed.  Given what Shakhtar striker Luis Adriano did, it is a wonder there were not a few red cards in there.

Adriano recorded a hat trick as the highly touted striker tallied in minutes 26, 53, and 81.  However, he may have been oblivious to the rest of the match and to the idea of sportsmanship.  A stoppage in play due to injury gave Shaktar the ball back.  It was cleared the length of the pitch in a good faith clearance.Adriano didn’t see it as such and took on the relaxed keeper for an easy goal.  Take a look at the play below.  What do you make of it?
