Giving Thanks

With Thanksgiving here, I decided to share with everyone what I’m thankful for…regarding the USMNT that is. With so many things to complain about, I thought it would be a nice change of pace to focus on the good things. Here’s what/who I’m thankful for. In no particular order:

  • Tim Howard – where would this team be without him? A lot of the USMNT’s success these past couple of decades

has a lot to do with the quality keepers the US has been able to produce. Tim is one of the best in the world (top 20 is safe to say, right?) and has bailed out the USMNT time and time again.

  • Emergence of new leaders – I’m looking at you Michael Bradley & Clint Dempsey. While both have been key players for several years, as Landon Donovan has stepped out of the limelight, these two players have stepped forward. Clint’s the main man right now but I think after WC 2014, this will become Bradley’s team.
  • Prospects – Some have fallen short (remember Gale Agbossoumonde?) and some have show some promise (hi Diskerud, Gatt, & Agudelo) but it’s always exciting to think about those that might add something new to the USMNT player pool.
  • Dual Nationals – Bob Bradley did a great job at this and Coach K is doing the same. In order to meet some of the ridiculous expectations that over zealous fans like myself have, dual nationals will continue to play an important role until MLS can develop more players domestically.
What are you thankful for?
