U.S. Elsewhere: Thanksgiving Weekend Soccer Preview

Steve Cherundolo has been dealing with an injury but has a chance to play against Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich tomorrow.  Hannover got the short end of the scheduling stick having about 42 hours between their Europa league match on Thursday and the tough match on Saturday afternoon.  It will be a tall order for Hannover as Bayern has left points on the table in only two of their Bundesliga matches all year.  The second place team in Germany, Schalke, is coming off a win in Champions League action that ensured they will advance.  They hold a goal differential over their opponent this week, Eintracht Frankfurt.  Frankfurt are the surprise team in the Bundesliga this year coming off of their promotion.  Jermaine Jones figures to feature for Schalke.

Nürnberg and Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth e. V. renew the Franken Derby Saturday as Timmy Chandler and Nürnberg look to continue gaining moment after last week’s tie with Bayern.  The CloverLeafs were promoted this year but have only managed seven points.  Nürnberg has not fared much better sitting in a playoff relegation spot.

One step above Nürnberg is Hoffenheim.  Danny Williams figures to be replaced in the starting lineup this week.  Fabian Johnson could still feature as they take on powerhouse Bayern Leverkusen.

In England, the U.S. players look to rebound with their squads.  Aston Villa is coming off a 5-0 defeat to Premier League leaders Manchester City that could have been much worse if not for Brad Guzan.  He figures to start again this week against a hot Arsenal squad.  Villa is currently looking at relegation.

Tottenham needs a pick me up as well losing all but one of their last five matches in the Premier League.  While they have been switching between Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel at keeper, Clint Dempsey expects to feature against West Ham.  They sit two points ahead of Spurs.

Also in England, Geoff Cameron should start for Stoke City against Fulham.  Tim Howard and Everton hope to slow down Norwich City after they beat Manchester United last week.
