U.S. Elsewhere: Thanksgiving Weekend Soccer Wrap Up

The Tottenham manager Andre Villa-Boas has stuck with Clint Dempsey after some questions about his play this year with the Spurs.  There had to be some transition issues for Dempsey after sitting out waiting for a new team.  Perhaps Dempsey is finding his form without scoring.  He and Gareth Bale combined for a beautiful goal that helped Tottenham secure a 3-1 victory against West Ham.  The win moved the Spurs into seventh place as they look ahead to Liverpool and Fulham.  Brad Friedel was on the bench in favo of Hugo Lloris.  Check the goal after the jump along with more information on how U.S. players did this week.

Aston Villa rebounded after a 5-0 defeat last week to a 0-0 draw this weekend against a hot Arsenal squad.  The tie temporarily moved Villa out of the bottom three until Southampton won earlier today.  Arsenal was unable to get many good chances, but keeper Brad Guzan was up to the challenge.  Eric Lichaj came on in the 51st minute to help secure the draw down the stretch.

Also in the Premier League, Stoke City and Geoff Cameron were able to secure a much needed 1-0 win over Fulham.  Everton and Tim Howard continued to leave points on the table as Norwich equalized in the 90th minute.  In the

Championship Tim Ream played 78 minutes in a 1-1 draw as Bolton equalized in the 96th minute.  Jonathan Spector went the full match and recorded a yellow in a 3-2 loss for Birmingham City.  Zak Whitbread went the full match and got a yellow in first half stoppage time in a 2-0 win for Leicester City.  Middleborough lost 3-1 with Seb Hines going the full match.

In Germany things kept getting worse for Hoffenheim.  Leverkusen has now won eight of the last night as they dominated Hoffenheim and Fabian Johnson for a 2-1 victory.  Johnson did contribute the goal in the 59th minute to give his team hope for the second half. He was subbed out of the match in the 83rd minute.  Danny Williams was given the day off as Hoffenheim tried new tactics to turn their fortune.  The loss combined with a draw by Nürnberg moved Hoffenheim into a relegation playoff spot at the bottom of the table.

Timmy Chandler played the full match for Nürnberg against Fürth.  Elsewhere in the Bundesliga Steve Cherundolo and Hannover were up against tough scheduling and a tough opponent as they fell 5-0 to Bayern Munich.  Cherundolo played the full match as did Jermaine Jones for Schalke.  Jones was given a yellow in the 26th minute of the draw with Frankfurt.
