MLS Best XI Named

Major League Soccer named its end of the year all pro team better known as the Best XI.  There were a lot of no-brainers listed including Chris Wondolowski.  He tied the all time scoring record set by Roy Lassiter and recorded more assists than he is expected in the Supporters’ Shield season for the San Jose Earthquakes.  Wondolowski is expected to be named the MVP tomorrow so check the ad in USA Today to see his smiling face.  The rest of the Best XI is after the jump.

Goalkeeper: Jimmy Nielsen, Sporting Kansas City.

Defenders: Matt Besler, Sporting Kansas City; Victor Bernardez, San Jose Earthquakes; Aurelien Collin, Sporting Kansas City.

Midfielders: Graham Zusi, Sporting Kansas City; Chris Pontius, D.C. United; Osvaldo Alonso, Seattle Sounders; Landon Donovan, Los Angeles Galaxy.

Forwards: Thierry Henry, New York Red Bulls; Chris Wondolowski, San Jose Earthquakes; Robbie Keane, Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Best XI is selected by media, team representatives, and players.  The squad includes three of the top five goal scorers, the top two assist leaders, and the MLS Defensive Player of the Year.  There are not a lot of arguments as many players had their ups and downs.  Nielsen was unable to show his ability much in the playoffs, but had a solid year.  Everyone on the Best XI was a member of a playoff team.
