U.S. Elsewhere: Corona, Castillo, Garza Help Tijuana Win LigaMX Title

Club Tijuana was founded in 2007 and is in only their third season in the top tier of Mexican football.  The Xolos took a 2-1 lead into the final leg of the title match with Toluca and dominated their opponent 4-1 on aggregate.  U.S. players Joe Corona and Edgar Castillo played in the match that was also broadcast in English on Univision Depotes showing the interest for the match in the United States . San Diego has embraced the team as the team has reached out with friendlies and youth academies.

Greg Garza is also on the roster for the Xolos although he did not participate in tonight’s action.  Castillo played the full match and hit a strike that was saved at the last moment just after halftime.  Corona went 67 minutes in the final leg of the Apertura championship.

Elsewhere, Michael Bradley patrolled the middle of the pitch for AS Roma during a 3-1 victory.  Roma remains in sixth place in Serie A.

In Germany, Hoffenheim continues a putrid season.  The team featuring Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams lost 4-1 to Werder Bremen.  As Hoffenheim continues to struggle, Williams was asked to play center back today.  The team’s current position in the table would set up a relegation/promotion playoff with a team that was relegated last year, FC Kaiserslautern.

Jozy Altidore and AZ Alkmaar lost 2-1.  Michael Parkhurst was given a yellow in a 3-0 victory for FC Nordsjælland.
