Soccer News and Notes: USMNT Vs. Canada in January, Busy MLS

There was speculation that the January camp for the U.S. Men’s National Team would not end in a friendly with the busy 2013 schedule.  However, Camp Cupcake, or Streusel, will commence with a friendly against Canada on January 29th in Houston.  The roster should be comprised of many players from Major League Soccer as the match falls just before the FIFA international window.  World Cup qualifying will resume a week after the friendly.  For more on the match, check out the release from U.S. Soccer.

Before getting to the news in the MLS, we would like to congratulate Tim Howard for joining Brad Friedel as the only players to play in 200 straight matchesin the Premier League. Everton finished with a 1-1 draw

against Geoff Cameron and Stoke City.

The offseason in Major League Soccer has not been quiet thus far.  Trades, signings, and the release of Rafa Marquez has all kept the soccer world buzzing.  The player combine for the MLS SuperDraft is less than a month away with the draft taking place on January 17th.  The MLS website has a page dedicated to moves and news that will affect the SuperDraft.  You can check out the moves from this past week’s Re-Entry daft, including San Jose bolstering their back line immensely.Sporting KC has been one of the busiest teams acquiring multiple players including the newlywed Benny Feilhaber.  Now they are linked to Claudio Beiler as a new designated player.  He should be announced on Tuesday.

Finally, Sporting did a great job with their holiday greeting.  The like to mention the SKC Family and this video is all about that and includes CEO Robb Heineman on a treadmill ergonomically designed for flawless computer use.
