U.S. Elsewhere: Dempsey Scores, Training Resumes For Many

The Barclays Premier League has been busy and 14 teams were in action today.  Tottenham squared off with Reading and the 3-1 Spurs victory was predicted.  Clint Dempsey returned to action as a substitute after missing matches last week with a groin injury.  The win put Tottenham back into third place, one point ahead of Chelsea.  Chelsea takes on Queens Park Rangers tomorrow.  Dempsey came on in the 74th minute and scored in the 78th off a deflection.  Check out the goal below.

Brad Guzan was busy again today as Aston Villa managed a 2-2 draw with Swansea City.  Swansea managed 24 total shots with 13 on target.  Six of those shots were saved by Guzan, but he is still falling victim to a porous defense.  Still, Villa managed to take the lead in the 82nd minute only to see it slip away after almost four minutes of stoppage time.  Eric Lichaj was not used.

Geoff Cameron and Stoke City were shut out 3-0 by Manchester City keeping City six points clear of Tottenham.  Most of Cameron’s action today was on throw-ins as City controlled most of the match.

Elsewhere in the soccer world teams are focusing on training before their league play resumes. Michael Bradley and AS Roma have been in Orlando over the holidays.  They will finish up against Orlando City FC at Rollins College tomorrow.  This has given Bradley and his teammates a chance for many photo opportunities as the Wide World of Sports.

Many teams in the German Bundesliga are preparing for training as the international transfer window opened. Hannover and Steve Cherundolo will meet at AWD Arena on Friday before spending a week in Vila Nova de Cacela Portugal.  Shawn Parker and Mainz will hold a public training session in Germany tomorrow before traveling to southern Spain.  Timmy Chandler and Nürnberg are back in action on Thursday with Dieter Hecking before heading to Mijas, Spain on the 5th.  Hoffenheim with Danny Williams and Fabian Johnson will head to Portugal.
