The Major League Soccer SuperDraft takes place on Thursday after its combine wraps up tomorrow. Coaches and scouts have been in attendance as teams look to add talent while still jostling with trades and other signings. Will any MLS squad make a run at Alejandro Bedoya? Could we see the SuperDraft order change before Thursday. The event will be streamed live with the first pick also being shown on Sportscenter as it happens. The SuperDraft will be be shown in its entirety on ESPN3, MLSsoccer.com, YouTube, and other outlets starting at Noon ET January 17th.
Toronto will have tow of the top three picks with Chivas sandwiched in between. The full first round order is:
Dallas will have the first pick in the second round as part of the Jeremy Hall trade. New England has three total picks in the second round.
A few names have continually popped up after through the MLS combine with a couple being primarily left wingers. Blake Smith of New Mexico and Don Anding of Northeastern have shown their pure athletic talents in speed and agility. Anding posted the top time of the combine in the speed trials. He beat out Santa Clara forward Erik Hurtago by .05 in those trials although Hurtado claimed a 31 inch vertical jump. Hurtado has been linked as a target for the Fire.
Despite the athletic prowess of these three, many believe several Generation Adidas players will be selected at the top including Andrew Farrell, Mikey Lopez, and Eriq Zavaleta. Zavaleta can play forward or defender although many coaches may be targeting him for the back line. Walker Zimmerman and Jason Johnson, two more Generation Adidas players, will also go in the top ten.
Keep watching for updates leading up to the SuperDraft. Will Farrell go number one? To which team? Time will tell.
