U.S. Elsewhere: Soccer Weekend Wrap and Roster Leaks

Many matches this weekend would have an influence on the U.S. Men’s National Team roster that will be announced tomorrow for the first hex World Cup qualifying match.  In Germany, Michael Parkhurst was in the 18 for Augsburg, but did not see time.  He has a chance to be a starter at the back with an injury to Steve Cherundolo.  He was not available during a 2-0 loss by Hannover against Bremen.  The good news is that Fabian Johnson went the full 90 in a much needed win for Hoffenheim.  Danny Williams entered that match in the 76th minute.  Jermaine Jones returned to Schalke but his team lost 2-1 to Fürth.  They are falling fast in the table.  Earlier today Timmy Chandler played the full match in a 2-1 Nürnberg win.  That win moves them eight points clear of the relegation playoff.

In England, Clint Dempsey managed six shots but none found the back of the net in a 1-0 win for Tottenham.  The Spurs are in fourth place just one point behind third place Chelsea.  In a battle of top U.S. goalies Everton and Aston Villa drew at 3-3.  It was not the best performance going into qualifying for either Tim Howard or Brad Guzan.  Guzan was tested more often making 10 saves.  Villa are still in the relegation zone after the draw.  Geoff Cameron played 82 minutes for Stoke City in a 1-0 loss to Arsenal.  Brek Shea was not in uniform.

In Mexico Tigres and Tijuana played to a 2-2 draw to remain atop the table.  Jose Francisco Torres, or Gringo as his jersey said, played 82 minutes and earned a yellow for Tigres.  Joe Corona went 69 for Tijuana while Edgar Castillo went the full match.  In matches that are currently underway DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Orozco Fiscal and Herculez Gomez all started.

With the roster announcement tomorrow there has been some frustration on the wait, but no major injury news has come out of these matches.  We do know that certain players have alluded to heading to Miami, which is where the team will meet before heading to Honduras.  You’ve probably seen the tweet that Matt Besler sent with Kim Kardashian on a plane.  She then said she was in Miami.  I feel bad that this is the type of detective work we do now.

Brad Davis had his picture taken by a worker in the airport.  Josh Gatt is back in Molde.  Juan Agudelo bought a ton of groceries that we won’t want to see spoil.  Well at least we will know it all tomorrow morning.
