MLS Orlando Friendlies: Taylor Morgan Sparks Toronto FC Win Over Orlando

Just as they did against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, the Orlando City Soccer Club kept their match against Toronto FC tight through the first half. But a second-half flurry of goals kept the USL Pro side from claiming a big-league scalp for their collection as the Canadians escaped with a runaway 3-0 victory in the night match of Wednesday’s slate at the Disney Pro Soccer Classic in Orlando.

Eight minutes after the intermission, Toronto finally cracked the scoreboard when rookie forward Taylor Morgan took a Luis Silva pass and beat the goalkeeper. Throughout the match the Supplemental Draft pick from George Mason used his size to find space, showing well in earning the match winner.

Once the first goal went in, Toronto — smelling the weakness of their prey — redoubled their offensive efforts looking for more goals. Terry Dunfield, the veteran Canadian midfielder and former Manchester City academy player, would answer the call. He stepped up to convert a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, punishing Orlando for a hand ball in the box by bumping the score to 2-0.

The gap was pushed to three goals in the waning minutes by one of the most exciting goals of the preseason. Nicholas Osorio, a product of the Toronto FC academy system, was the star of the night as the youngster threaded his way through Orlando’s defense and blasted home the third.

Toronto faces the Philadelphia Union in their final group match on Saturday. Orlando takes on the Columbus Crew, group leaders, in their finale before the seeding round the following Saturday.
