U.S. Soccer Elsewhere: Parkhurst Gets First Start, Xolos Drop Second Straight

Michael Parkhurst got his first start with FC Augsburg in the German Bundesliga this weekend.  He played 84 minutes in the 2-1 loss against Bayer Leverkusen.  Parkhurst did his best to facilitate the offense sending in a team-leading five crosses and completed 44 of 51 passes.  The loss all but cements Augsburg’s impending relegation move.

Also in the Bundesliga, Jermaine Jones and Schalke are winless in four matches but were able to salvage a 2-2 draw against Mainz.  Jones went the entire match as did Timmy Chandler for Nürnberg.  Chandler recorded an assist on the stoppage time equalizer. For Hoffenheim, Danny Williams went 54 minutes and Fabian Johnson played the full 90 in a 1-0 loss to Stuttgart.  Williams also got a yellow card.

In 2.Bundesliga John Anthony Brooks went the full match alongside Alfredo Morales, who got his first start on the year for Hertha Berlin.  Berlin looks a lock to move to the top tier next year.

In Liga MX defending champion Club Tijuana lost its second straight match due in part to being down a man.  Edgar Castillo received a red card in the 49th minute on an accumulation of yellows.  Joe Corona was subbed out at halftime and Xolos lost to Chiapas 2-0.  The loss knocked them to fourth in the standings while Tigres took over the top spot.  Jose Torres played 74 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Santos Laguna that pushed Tigres ahead of Club America and Atlas.  Herculez Gomez went 87 for Santos Laguna.  Michael Orozco and DaMarcus Beasley play at 5 pm EST today as Puebla take on Guadalaja.

In The FA Cup Everton allowed an equalizer goal on the final play of the game meaning that there will now be another match with Oldham.  Tim Howard was unable to get the punch through traffic and the ball was headed in by Matt Smith.  There was some controversy as it looked like the ball may have been punched in.  Judged for yourself.

In Italy, Michael Bradley was brought in for the last 22 minutes by Roma to help secure a 1-0 victory over powerhouse Juventus.  It was a much needed win over the current table topper as Roma moved into the eighth position.

Finally, Jozy Altidore is at it again.  He scored for AZ as they drew with Roda 2-2.  He had several other chances, but converted this by being strong on the ball and hitting a nice diving shot.  It was his 21st goal in all competitions.
