Morning Aggregate: The Day After the USMNT World Cup Roster Announcement

The reaction to Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster announcement for the next set of matches in the hex World Cup qualifying is still ongoing.  We had some initial thoughts and will continue to discuss this as the game on Friday night commences.  Klinsmann held a conference call a few hours after the release in which he called the match against Costa Rica a ‘must win’ game.  He said it is more about getting all the points in each home game during CONCACAF qualifying.  The coach also said they are glad they held the January camp, especially with nine players from MLS being called in, and that the team is not dwelling on the injuries.

We take it the way it is. Do we wish to have those players back as soon as possible? Absolutely, but it is what it is, so we are comfortable with this roster and the guys coming into Denver now to get the job done.

One of the big debates is Carlos Bocanegra being left off the roster if for nothing else than his leadership.  In the conference call it was said that Boca was not called in because he is not playing.  Many are asking if this is the end of an era, which is something we called for last summer.  There is also plenty of talk about the wide backs in the defense and although the coach mentioned Tony Beltran and Justin Morrow, Geoff Cameron might slot in at right back.

The players arrived in Denver yesterday and a bunch of them went to the Colorado Avalanche game.  It appears they went in different groups as the group with Graham Zusi had much better seats than those with Maurice Edu.

To get your mind off of the impending qualifiers it is always good to discuss soccer kits.  We feel bad that we have not given the adequate coverage to the Minnesota United FC jersey.  This is just fabulous.  The bird wings on the black jersey blend so well.

The San Antonio Scorpions also unveiled a new jersey.  While it is not as flashy as the Minnesota jersey, it is very clean.  The sponsorship dollars as noted by the logos are probably a welcome site for the Scorpions’ organization.
