The You Know What has hit the fan my fellow #USMNT fans

Brian Straus of Sporting News, one of the most respected journalists that covers soccer here in America, came out with an article this morning showing the frustrations that some of the players on the USMNT have with Coach Klinsmann. He spoke to 22 people connected to US Soccer in some fashion including 11 players that are either in the USMNT player pool or have connections to those players. Here’s a couple of quotes and/or interesting tidbits:

  • Going into the match against Hondura, Bocanegra had been training with the first team and expected to start as soon as morning of game day.

“It was one of those things where Jurgen woke up the next day and wanted to try something we weren’t familiar with,” a player said.

  • A common opinion was that Klinsmann and his right-hand man, Martin Vazquez are not tactically strong.
  • Lots of initiatives done in practice don’t translate to the field.
  • The locker room has chemistry issues due to constant lineup changes and resentment over perceived favoritism with the German-American dual nationals.

Straus was able to follow up with Klinsmann for a response:

“These comments are just normal to me,” he said. “This team is in a transition. Between two World Cup cycles, faces change. We’re doing that, and you also kind of mix up the chemistry. There will be a new group of leaders coming through that process, and that will be responsible for molding everything together.”

I’ll leave my summary at that because quite honestly, it’s something that you need to read yourself. Here’s a link to the article but feel free to leave a comment here with your reaction.
