Morning Aggregate: Landon Donovan Rejoins the LA Galaxy

Landon Donovan trained with the Los Angeles Galaxy for the past two days after returning from his long soccer sabbatical.  He went to Cambodia and spent some time in Wisconsin.  He returned in time for his team’s trip to the White House to celebrate the MLS Cup victory.  He also addressed his teammates.  Mike Magee made it sound like no big deal.

He didn’t have to say much, we’re not a young group of guys that was wondering, it was very clear that we were going to let him do what he needed to do.  He came in front of the guys and said thanks for having me back, we didn’t guilt trip him too much so he’s happy to be back and we’re happy for him to be back.

There is no word on when he will return to the line up.  The Galaxy head to Toronto on Saturday.

In the aftermath of the U.S. match with Mexico it seems a lot of people were tuning in to watch the 0-0 draw.

Birmingham has a good soccer community apparently.  These ratings beat the 2012 Champions League Final as well as many of the English Premier League telecasts.  Not everyone was watching though, such as this guy who wants to stick to his NBA.

Brad Friedel weighed in on the performance of Brad Guzan over the last two matches.

The National Women’s Soccer League preseason is underway.  Many of the teams opened up against nearby universities with most coming out on top.  The Washington Spirit did draw with Duke.  Sky Blue FC and the Boston Breakers played a match last night that featured lots of scoring.  Sky Blue won 3-2 behind two goals by Kelley O’Hara.  Sophie Schmidt added the other goal while Heather O’Reilly and Lianne Sanderson tallied for Boston.  The regular season gets underway on April 13.
