Morning Aggregate: Moore and Vermes Enter Hall of Fame, America Removed from Clinton List

Joe-Max Moore and Peter Vermes have been elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame.  Moore is going in as the lone player representative while Vermes is heading in under the veteran category.  Moore was in his second to last year of eligibility on the player ballot.  He amassed 100 matches from the 1992 Olympics on and scored 24 international goals.  Vermes made his debut in the 1988 Olympic Games and currently coaches Sporting Kansas City.  He was the captain of the National Team in 1991 as well.  The induction ceremony for Moore and Vermes is yet to be determined.

The U.S. Department of Treasury officially removed Columbia’s America de Cali from its list of alleged front companies for drug trafficking.  The soccer club’s ties to former drug kings had kept it on the list for 20 years, which included the freezing of $1 million in assets that were held in the U.S.  The announcement was followed by a celebration in Columbia for America.

Alejandro Bedoya made some headlines after his Helsingborg side lost to IFK Göteborg yesterday.  He was not too happy with how the visiting team played.

The North American Soccer League is focusing on expansion to California as early as 2015.  The NASL commissioner Bill Peterson said the owners do not feel pressure to expand in a certain time frame.

Finally a prominent youth development program in the San Diego will join the U.S. Soccer Development Academy in the 2014-15 competition year.  The USSDA is based on more meaningful training and fewer matches in order to develop the next National Team players.  With the success of Club Tijuana helping to increase popularity in that area, the addition of Albion SC to the USSDA gives San Diego three teams under the development umbrella.
