Morning Aggregate: Steve Cherundolo Returns, Clint Dempsey Vs Tim Howard

Steve Cherundolo returned to the Hannover line up yesterday for the first time since December.  He started and went the full match in a 0-0 draw against Stuttgart.  Cherundolo may still be in the mix for a roster spot with the National Team, especially if they continue to deal with injury issues, but he will have to use the remaining six weeks of matches in the Bundesliga to demonstrate his fitness.  Hannover is only four points back of a Europa League qualifying spot and will play half of the remaining matches on the road, including next week at Freiburg.

Clint Dempsey faced Tim Howard yesterday as Tottenham and Everton played to a 2-2 draw.  The draw put the Spurs up two points on Arsenal for fourth place in the Premier League, but Arsenal has a game in hand.  Howard made five saves but Tottenham scored the equalizer in the 88th minute.  Dempsey received a yellow card in the 84th minute but failed to help find creativity in the attack.

U.S. Men’s National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann is open to staying with the U.S. Soccer Federation following next year’s World Cup.  He acknowledges that there is still a long way to go in qualifying, but says it is never too early to look at long term professional goals and next steps.

The U.S. under-17 team started their bid for the U-17 CONCACAF Championship last night in Panaman City taking on Haiti.  The U.S. took a 1-0 lead into the half off a penalty kick from Chris Lema although the minutes heading to the whistle were shaky defensively against a very athletic Haitian squad.  Poor finishing plagued the Haitian team all night and the U.S. team took control in the second half as Lema scored his second and Ahinga Selemani tallied to lead the U.S. to the 3-0 victory.  The United States will play Guatemala on Thursday.
