Two weeks ago, Warren Creavalle nabbed Houston two points that they didn’t earn during the first half of their match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. This week, no matter what MLSsoccer.com might say, it wasn’t that expected that the winger would find a way to net the Dynamo another point, but it would only be one as Toronto FC earned their fourth straight draw in a 1-1 draw at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon. The only shock was the timing.
The Houston Dynamo, who continued to struggle away from their record-setting home, needed every second as Creavalle scored in the 94th minute to steal a come-from-behind draw to keep pace with Sporting Kansas City and the Montreal Impact in the Eastern Conference. After looking certain to defeat the Dynamo, the Reds gave up the equalizer at the most inopportune time possible.
Luis Silva was the key to what would end up being Jeremy Hall’s goal in the 58th minute. Silva’s dummy in the penalty area left Houston disheveled, and their clearance fell to Jeremy Hall. The midfielder stepped up from his holding position to drive a low shot, beating Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall to the far corner.
It looked as though Toronto had earned their first home victory since last June, but a last-gasp goal from Creavalle pulled two points away from the Reds and kept Houston as close to the pace in the table as possible. Redirecting Ricardo Clark’s attempt, Creavalle beat Toronto goalkeeper Joe Bendik and saved another point for his desperate side.
Houston return home to host the Colorado Rapids on April 28, putting their home undefeated streak on the line as they try to preserve as many points as they can. Toronto will try for their first victory since beating Sporting Kansas City on March 9 when they face the New York Red Bulls in a week on April 27.
