According to the Toronto Star, Toront FC president and GM Kevin Payne has been removed of his duties by the club. After joining TFC in November 2012, Payne has been let go by Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports, owners of the club.
Payne gave MLSSoccer.com this quote, “I’m disappointed, but this is the way this business works. I was a little bit surprised, but I understand that Tim wants to move – not in a dramatically different – but in a somewhat different direction.”
Toronto FC declined to comment on the decision.
TFC’s record of 4-12-10 this season is good for second-worst in the league. Since entering MLS in 2007, the club has yet to make the playoffs. If they fail to do so again, which it looks like they will, 2013 will be the seventh consecutive season.
