The Women’s World Cup is just a year away but things are already starting to heat-up with what players are expected to be in the starting XI next summer. One of the more questioned spots in the US attack, is which forward best pairs along with veteran Abby Wambach?
The assumption can be made that Wambach will be starting in one of the two forward rolls, unless an injury occurs or her form significantly drops. Both are very unlikely, but in today’s game, anything is certainly possible.
The USWNT is blessed with many strikers that can make big plays and scored a lot of goals. Top notch players like Sydney Leroux, Alex Morgan, Christen Press, Amy Rodriguez and Heather O’Riley all are more than capable of scoring goals. Morgan will be fully recovered from her injury come World Cup qualifying time, so that makes the conversation that much more interesting.
Typically, the US plays a 4-4-2 which makes the chose for whoever the next coach is very difficult. There have been only a few times that the USWNT has played a 4-3-3, but typically the formation has been a traditional 4-4-2.
Our USWNT Poll Question of the day centers around who you think should be paired with Wambach for the up-coming World Cup qualifiers and for next summers World Cup in Canada.
