USWNT: 22 Player Squad Named For Canada Friendly

It was announced on Wednesday that interim head coach, Jillian Ellis officially named her 22 players for the May 8, friendly against Canada. This squad is a great mix between young and experienced players and will give Canada a true run for their money for 90 minutes plus.

Of the 22 players named, 18 will officially suit-up for this friendly and have the ability to showcase their talent. The Women’s World Cup is just a year away and unlike the Men’s National Team, a majority of the roster is already decided, whether Ellis or whoever the next coach wants to admit it.

The USWNT has seen a steady spike in talent over the past five years and if history tells us anything, next years World Cup squad could be the best yet. On all accounts, the USWNT will certainly not treat their up-coming match against Canada as just a friendly. Similarly to the USA vs. Mexico rivalry, the game between the US and Canada is always hot and heavy. Several of the top players for the Canadian national team call the NWSL home, making this rivalry that much stronger and important.

U.S. Women’s National Team Roster By Position
