According to many sources, USWNT goalkeeper, Hope Solo was arrested last night and is being held without bail for investigation on two counts of domestic-violence assault at the South Correctional Entity Regional Jail in Des Moines, Wash.
Solo is the star goalkeeper for the USMNT and Seattle Reign FC in the NWSL.
It is being reported that Solo was arrested at the house she shares with her husband, Jerramy Stevens, who is former NFL Tight End. Solo reported struck her sister and nephew and left “visible injuries on them” according to Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray.
“There was a big party going on at her house. It was an out-of-control situation,” Murray said.
This is the second time that Solo has been involved with domestic abuse. The Seattle Times reported that Stevens was arrested in 2012 for allegedly assaulting Solo. What makes things even more interesting, is that Stevens and Solo were married just hours after Stevens court appearance.
Under normal circumstances, Solo should have been with the USWNT who were taking on France two days ago. But according to the team’s Twitter account, Solo was away at a “family commitment.”
Solo is listed as “Hope Amelia Stevens” at the county jail. Currently, no date for release is set.
The USWNT begins World Cup qualifying in just a few short months. Thankfully for Jill Ellis and her squad, goalkeeper is one position the team has plenty of depth in. No official comment has surfaced yet from Ellis or the U.S. Soccer federation.
Solo is one of the best ever female goalkeepers, especially in USWNT history. Besides Solo, there are several other talented goalkeepers to help the USWNT out. Nicole Barnhart and Ashlyn Harris are the two best candidates for replacing Solo.
Considering both of those goalkeepers are incredibly talented, replacing Solo will be no problem. She certainly will always be a valuable member of the squad, but her off the field issues have started to overshadow all of her on the field success.
Only time will tell what will happen to Solo.
