The UEFA Women’s U-19 Euro returned to action today along with a surprising new, low-scale tournament that I happened to come across.
2014 UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship
Group Stage – Final Matchday
The Semifinals are now set as the 3rd and final matchday is officially in the books.
Norway took care of business against Scotland to secure their spot in the Semifinals. Their 5-0 win surely kept the home crowd on their feet for most of the game. In the other Group A game, the Netherlands secured their spot in the semis with a 1-0 win over Belgium. Inessa Kaagman netted the game-winning goal in the 41′.
Final Group A Standings:
Norway – 2-1-0, 7 points, +6 GD
Netherlands – 2-1-0, 7 points, +2 GD
Scotland – 1-0-2, 3 points, -4 GD
Belgium – 0-0-3, 0 points, -4 GD
In Group B, Spain took care of England to complete the comeback from their opening loss with a final score of 2-0. England had a miserable time in the tournament and flunks out with 0 points and only scored 1 goal in 3 games. Ireland capped off a perfect group stage with a 2-1 win over Sweden. Sweden struck first and needed the win to have a chance to advance, but could not get it done.
Final Group B Standings:
Republic of Ireland – 3-0-0, 9 points, +3 GD
Spain – 2-0-1, 6 points, +3 GD
Sweden – 1-0-2, 3 points, -1 GD
England – 0-0-3, 0 points, -5 GD
The Semifinals will take place on July 24th and will look like this:
Norway vs Spain – UKI Arena, Jessheim
Republic of Ireland vs Netherlands – Mjondalen Arena, Mjondalen
2015 East Asian Cup Qualification
Preliminary Round 1 – Day 1
All matches will be played in Guam and the winner of this group will have the right to move on to the 2nd Preliminary Round. The East Asian Cup pits these teams together in a bi-annual tournament. I’m going to level with all of you, I didn’t even know this existed until it popped up on my Flashscore app’s competitions for today.
There were two matches to kick off the Qualification and they saw Mongolia thrash the Northern Mariana Islands while Guam and Macau drew in a scoreless tie.
The games will continue on Wednesday with the standings at:
Mongolia – 1-0-0, 3 points, +4 GD
Guam – 0-1-0, 1 point, 0 GD
Macau – 0-1-0, 1 point, 0 GD
Northern Mariana Islands – 0-0-1, 0 points, -4 GD
