Tottenham Hotspur target Antoine Griezmann has joined Atletico Madrid after successfully undergoing a medical at the Spanish club earlier this morning.
The young French player cost Madrid around £24m ($40.7m). Griezmann was a target for Tottenham Hotspur as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season. Unfortunately reports emerged yesterday that the French player had agreed a contract to join Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid exceeded everyone’s expectations last season and finished as Champions of La Liga, ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid. The first time a club outside of Barca and Madrid had won La Liga since 2004.
They are clearly looking to invest some of the money they gained from winning the league into their playing staff in an attempt to retain the title this season.
Tottenham will now have to concentrate their search elsewhere as yet another target has slipped from through their fingers. Although, Spurs manager Pochettino has said that he is happy with his current squad of players.
Of course, all future transfer dealing will be dependent on whether Jan Vertonghen stays or leaves after rumours coming from Barcelona and other European giants.
I think that Tottenham should be happy with their squad, although a proven goal scorer wouldn’t go amiss. Loic Remy is rumoured to be interested in a Tottenham switch after his medical with Liverpool fell through.
Although, they need to keep hold of Vertonghen. He is key to them having a good season and is an absolute stalwart in the Spurs defence.
