Chelsea FC have an abundance of strikers going into the 2014/2015 English Premier Season, Diego Costa, Didier Drogba, and Fernando Torres. On paper, the three strikers are talented and each have incredibly impresses soccer resumes, unfortunately games are not won on paper.
The main question that many Chelsea fans are wondering for this season is simple, “where does Fernando Torres fit into the team?” There really is only one answer, on the bench. That may come as a surprise to many of you, or maybe not, depending on close you have followed the strikers career over the past three years.
During his three years at Chelsea, Torres has scored 24 goals, something that isn’t respectable on any stance. The top scores in the EPL average 20-30 goals a season, Torres scored just 11 goals last season, while Luis Suarez scored 31 for Liverpool. At one point in their respective careers, Torres completely outplayed and outclassed Suarez. Now, Torres is desperate to return to his former goal-scoring ways.
Chelsea is loaded with talented midfielders like, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas, just to name a few. With the new addition of Costa to the offense, Torres will not see much of the field. Yes, it is possible for Jose Mourinho to line two strikers up, but, with all the talented midfielders, playing two strikers just does not make sense.
Regardless of what Mourinho decides on, one simple fact is true….Torres will not see much of the field in the up-coming EPL season.
