Cristiano Ronaldo is Europe’s best player, no question about it. It was proven yet again on Thursday night in Monaco, France as Ronaldo won the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.
Let’s be honest, no other player in the world is as popular and well-known as Ronaldo.
His 2013-2014 soccer year is one fans will always remember. From his 17 goals in Champions League play that propelled his club, Real Madrid to victory in the final. Who could forget his hat-trick against Sweeden to propel Portugal into the 2014 FIFA World Cup? No matter what you personally remember from this past year, Ronaldo’s name is all over it.
Ronaldo, beat out German and Neatherlands Internationals and Bayern Munich teammates, Manuel Neuer and Arjen Robben. Out of the two contenders, Neuer deserved the award more than Robben.
Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Frank Ribery previous won the award when it was first presented in 2011.
Now that Ronaldo adds yet another impressive trophy to his collect, he needs just one more trophy to complete – a World Cup.
The continuous argument against Ronaldo is that he has yet to win a World Cup. Realistically though, Portugal is simply not good enough to win the World Cup and may never be honestly.
Aside from that sad fact, Ronaldo is the best player in the world, no one can argue that. He won the Champions League, the Ballon De’ Ore and now the UEFA Best Player in Europe, on top of everything else impressive he did last year.
