Los Angeles Galaxy Sanction Supporters Group

It appears that the Angel City Brigade (ACB) has been handed sanctions by the Los Angeles Galaxy front office. These sanctions are for them throwing streamers during the MLS Cup final against the New England Revolution. From what I can see, it will be an eight match ban.

  • The following is an email that ACB sent out it is members and others on the mailing list:

"“It is our unfortunate responsibility to inform you that yesterday the Galaxy FO officially sanctioned us for throwing streamers during the game at last year’s MLS Cup final and what they deemed as a year filled with incidents. We want to make it clear, that disrupting the field of play by throwing objects on the field is never ok. However we strongly feel that extending the punishment beyond the scope of streamers is truly unjust. In addition to the streamer issue, much of their rational for these restrictions are from the past; actions that we believed were already sorted and settled (smoke throughout the season for example). Changing the rules midway through the season without notification is simply unethical. We were already penalized for the smoke incidents last season, and now this “encompassing” punishment is penalizing us again. We are truly shocked and disappointed by the severity of the FO’s actions! We will be discussing this at our board meeting on Saturday and ask that all supporters come to help us take the best possible course of action. If you are unable to make it or are not an ACB supporter, but have an opinion, please write to angelcitybrigade121@gmail.com and we will read your thoughts and opinions at the meeting. If you would like to express your displeasure to the Galaxy/MLS please feel free to reach out to Sid Patel, the manager of business development at spatel@lagalaxy.com.”– courtesy insidesocal.com"

Angel City Brigade posted on their Facebook page pretty much the same thing. They also listed the sanctions.

    • 1. No Supporters privileges for the first 4 home matches of the season, including the home opener. No flags, no drums, no tifo, no banner.
    • Friday 6-Mar vs Chicago, Saturday 21-Mar vs Houston, Sunday 12-Apr vs Seattle and Saturday 18-Apr vs Kansas City
    • 2. No Supporters privileges for the first 4 away matches of the season. No flags, no drums, no tifo, no banner.
    • Sunday 15-Mar vs Timbers, Saturday 28-Mar vs DC United, Saturday 4-Apr vs Whitecaps and Sunday 26-Apr New York Red Bulls
    • 3. No streamers for the entire 2015 season.

When it comes to these matters, I usually don’t comment. I can see both sides of the spectrum and that is normally why I stay away from it. However, if the group has been warned previously not to do something, than the sanctions are the correct thing to do. I also feel if they have been punished in the past for something, why should that particular punishment be extended? As the email states about, changing the rules midway through the season without notification is simply unethical.

I also think throwing streamers, or anything else, on the pitch is quite possibly the dumbest thing ever. If it hits a player will it injure them, most likely not. I have seen countless times that the streamers that have been thrown gets caught around a player’s foot or caught on their shoes. That aspect of it is dangerous and why it should never happen.

I have seen a few other supporters groups show support for ACB and that’s cool and all but also something they should stay away from. How about you deal with your own front office and not worry about someone else’s.

Does it suck not to have flags, drums, tifos and banners? Sure it is. It sucks badly. Maybe next time you will learn to listen to your front office and do as they ask and not throw stuff on the pitch. Quit trying to be something that you aren’t. Stop trying to be ultras with your smoke and protests against the front office. It makes you look like an idiot. This is America, not Europe.

WHAT ARE THOUGHTS ON THE SANCTIONS?
