Tottenham desperately want to advance in the Europa League

While Tottenham would certainly rather still be involved in Champions League play, Spurs do understand how important the Europa League is to their fans. Mauricio Pochettino will select a strong side against Gent today to overturn the 1-0 deficit.

The club’s fate in the competition isn’t just about the squad Pochettino selects though. It’s going to take the right starting lineup and the right tactics to dispatch their Belgian opponents. Gent were better than Tottenham in all aspects of football during the first leg.

That doesn’t mean Pochettino needs to make sweeping changes. The club will certainly be buoyed by playing another sold out match at Wembley. It’s an obvious statement, but playing at home is going to give this fixture a very different feel.

Coming into the home match down a goal isn’t a disaster either. Sure, Tottenham would much prefer to have an away goal to their name, but otherwise it could hardly be a more narrow margin. It’s still all out there in front of Spurs to win. Here are five things Tottenham must do to advance against Gent today.
