Jozy Altidore has feasted upon the Dutch Eredivisie this year and that continued yesterday with a hat trick.  It was the fastest hat trick in AZ Alkmaar history as they came in nine minutes in the first half.  Altidore now has 21 goals in 29 matches in the league with 28 in all competitions.  AZ would go on to beat Utrecht 6-0, who finished the match with nine men.  Unfortunately for Altidore his team is still in 13th place.  Highlights of the match are below.

Some other U.S. players enjoyed success over the weekend as well. Tim Howard got a shut out with a 2-0 victory for Everton over Queens Park Rangers.  Mainz and U.S. eligible forward Shawn Parker scored the only goal in a 2-1 loss.  Michael Bradley played a solid match for AS Roma in a win over Torino.  DaMarcus Beasley also scored a goal for Puebla after coming in as a sub for the second half.

The new women’s soccer league got underway this weekend as Kansas City and Portland played to a draw in the first match of the National Women’s Soccer League.  Renae Cuellar scored the first goal in NWSL history for Kansas City after she was one on one with the keeper thanks to a set up from Kristie Mewis.  The prolific Chrstine Sinclair would knot the match in the 66th minute. Over 6700 fans packed into Shawnee Mission District Stadium to watch the inaugural match on Saturday.

Three more matches took place yesterday.  The Washington Spirit and Boston Breakers also played to a 1-1 tie in Somerville, MA.  Tiffany McCarty scored for Washington in the 15th minute, but Sydney Leroux would knot the match just before the final whistle.  Chicago and Seattle also finished 1-1.  Lori Chalupny scored for Chicago 13 minutes after Christine Narin opened the scoring.  Sky Blue FC is the only team to get three points as they beat Western New York Flash 1-0.  WNY had a penalty kick taken by Adriana that was saved and the winner would come on an own goal.

The U.S. under-17 Men’s team lost to Honduras yesterday 3-1 and failed to qualify for the U-17 World Cup.  The loss snapped a streak of 15 consecutive qualifications for the U.S.  They went to the half at 1-1, but clearly looked tired in the second half.  Junior Flores, the player many think is the star of this class, was not used well and roster management will be the topic of discussion with the failure.  The second Honduras goal came 12 minutes after the second half whistle and it was a tough battle from then on out for the U.S.  The loss has some questioning the Bradenton residency program.

Norman Chad kind of makes fun of things for a living.  It is his annual turn to do that with MLS.

Finally, AEK Athens was forced off the field by their own supporters after giving up a late goal.
