This week saw some Serie A action in the middle of the week. Starting on Tuesday and ending on Thursday, every team played their fourth round game this week.

Empoli put forth a great effort in this one against the giants from Milan. Lorenzo Tonelli opened the scoring in the 13th minute to give Empoli the lead and Manuel Pucciarelli pulled the game to 2-0 in the 21st minute. Just before half, Fernando Torres scored in the 43rd to cut the lead to one.

Keisuke Honda continued his strong play as of late with a 57th minute goal to tie the game back up. Mirko Valdifiori received a double-yellow for the game in the 86th minute and was sent off. Milan could not get the decisive goal and each team came away with a point. Milan is in seventh place with seven points while Empoli earned their second straight point but stand in 19th.

Genoa possessed a 2-0 lead at the 48th minute on Alessandro Matri’s goal. Artur Ionita scored two goals for Verona in the 52nd and 64th minutes to bring the game back to a tie. The final would stand that way as Verona finished with their 2nd draw and eighth point on the season. They stand in sixth place. Genoa also finished with their second draw and their fifth point while standing in eighth.

Despite Alberto Paloschi’s goal for Chievo in the 90th minute, it would not lead to anything else as Sampdoria continues to play strong out of the gate.

Sampdoria has now won two of their first four games and are in fifth place with eight points. Chievo has now lost three of their first four and are in 17th with three points.

AS Roma won off of a little bit of heroics in the 88th minute as Miralem Pjanic scored the game-winning goal for the visiting team. It was a magnificent free kick that found the top right corner.

Roma continues to roll with wins in all four games thusfar and are tied for first with 12 points. Parma has now lost three of their first four games and share a tie with four other teams with just three points. Officially, they are in 16th.

Palermo netted three of the last four goals to be scored in the game as they pulled off a very surprising result on the road against a strong Napoli side. Andrea Belotti scored the tying goal in the 61st minute to get Palermo the point.

Despite Napoli possessing a strong team, they only earned their fourth point on the season and are currently tied for 10th with three other teams. Palermo are still without a win and earned their third draw. They are currently tied for 14th with four other teams.

Arturo Vidal started the scoring with a penalty shot. He would go on to score one more and Simone Padoin scored the third goal for the defending champions as they cruised to another victory.

Juventus has not given up a goal so far this season and hold first place with 12 points. Cesena lost their second game of the season and stall at four points. They stand in 13th, but technically in a tie for 10th.

Despite a beautiful save from Marco Sportiello on a penalty to keep the game at 0-0, Inter managed to net two goals after the failed penalty to win the match in front of their fans.

Inter won their second game of the season and still remain undefeated. They are currently in fourth place with eight points and are tied with two other teams with that point total. Atalanta lost their second straight match and stall at four points once again. They are currently in the four-way tie for 10th place.

Despite Fiorentina holding 73% possession, they fired 12 shots off of goal out of 18 goal attempts but still could not find a goal. Fiorentina drew for the second time and are in ninth place with five points. They are in a tie with Genoa for eighth but Genoa has the upper hand on them in the league table.

Sassuolo earned the hard fought decision and it is their third draw of the season. However, they have yet to win and are in the five-way tie for 14th place. Their three-point total is worst in the tiebreakers as they have only scored 1 goal and have given up 8. Due to this, they fall to 18th.

Torino bounced back after giving up the first goal in the 11th minute with two goals of their own in the 21st and 29th minutes.

Torino is trying to bounce back with their rough start and won their first game of the season in this match. They are one of the teams in the four-way tie for 10th place but stand in 12th after goal differential. Cagliari’s disastrous start continues, now losing three straight, and are in sole possession of last place with one measly point.

Silvan Widmer scored the lone goal of the game in the 27th minute as Udinese won a bit of a shocker on the road against Lazio. Udinese has now won three of their first four games this season and are in sole possession of third place in Serie A. They will look to keep the momentum going this weekend.
