4. US Men’s National Team’s Goalkeeping

With Tim Howard taking a hiatus, Brad Guzan is the expected to be the starter. On Friday, look for him and Bill Hamid to split time. Guzan has shined so far this season playing for Aston Villa. Hamid has kept DC United in many MLS and CCL games this season. Both are hungry to claim the starting gig until Howard returns from his year hiatus.

However, Howard may decide to retire internationally for good. Until then, Guzan seems to be the starting goalie. It is his job to lose and Hamid will be hungry to take that from him.

Nick Rimando is the third goalie called-up. He could see time as well in this friendly or the October 18 game against Honduras.

It will be interesting to see someone other than Howard in net especially given how he played during the 2014 World Cup. Guzan and Hamid are definitely not Howard in my mind. However, they have both shown on the club level that they can step up when called upon.

At the same time, it is important to remember that comparing players at the club international levels is apples to oranges. A player can be a stud for their club team, but fail on their national team or vice versa.

Pay attention to both Guzan,Hamid, and Rimando as they look to shine. It will be interesting to see who sees time after Guzan.
