Landon Donovan played his final USMNT game on Friday in Hartford, Connecticut. An era came to an end, but not before arguably the best male American soccer player to wear a US jersey chanted with the American Outlaws (US Soccer supporters)
In case you want another angle of Donovan leading the chant, check out the video below. He’s the guy in the red sunglasses.
The USMNT gave up a late goal and ultimately tied Ecuador 1-1. However, it was only a friendly and all eyes were on Donovan the entire match. He played about 10 minutes more than the planned 30 minutes, but US soccer fans aren’t complaining.
It is great to see an important player to US Soccer’s success like Donovan chanting among the supporters. After coming off the field, he could have easily just sat on the bench for the final minutes.
Yet, he was busy answering questions from other US Soccer legends, Alexi Lalas and Kasey Keller, at half-time. It was a whirlwind day for Donovan that was filled with many emotions.
An era comes to end for Donovan and US Soccer. Yet, he remembered a portion of those who support the national team win, lose, or draw – the American Outlaws. It will be a memory those fans can recall down the road. “I remember when Donovan chanted and cheered with the American Outlaws in Connecticut.”
Donovan created many memories throughout his national team tenure. On Friday, he made one more by classily cheering with the American Outlaws.
