3. Jim Curtin: Still a Lot to Play For?

While the Union may seemingly not have a lot to play for, Jim Curtin might. While there have been plenty of reports that Curtin has or definitely will get the Union head coaching position, there has been no official word on that yet.

So if the decision of a head coach has not been decided yet, Curtin will be looking to prove his worth in these final two games that he deserves to be the Union head coach moving forward. Curtin wants to be made permanent here.

Curtin started off his interim head coaching time here by rejuvenating the Union. He brought them out of that horrible start along with the likes of the Casey/Le Toux duo heating up. Curtin almost led this team to the US Open Cup Championship.

  • Since that time though, Curtin’s Union has not fared so well. He has made similar decisions that John Hackworth used to make that used to anger the fans such as Ribeiro playing out of position or the sub choices in the Open Cup final.

So if Curtin is still indeed just a candidate and not the official head coach, he will surely be looking to lead the Union to end the season on a high note, with two wins. He will be less likely to build to next year because for him, there might not be a next year as Union head coach.

Of course this is unknown to us as fans but it is definitely something to keep an eye on as this week’s game unfolds and the decisions Curtin may make. So while fans may call for younger players for this week’s game, Curtin may deploy his best possible roster to get the win.
