Osvaldo Alonso is my most favorite player to ever wear Rave Green. When Alonso is playing and is one his game, he is one of the best mid-fielders in MLS.

Alonso defected from the Cuban National Team in June 2007 as they were in Houston, TX to face the Honduran team. The story that has been told was that while Alonso was with teammates at a Wal-Mart, he went off by himself while browsing through merchandise and left the store. He walked several blocks until he found a man that spoke Spanish and borrowed his cell phone to call a friend in Miami, FL. Alonso became a US citizen in 2012.

More from Playing for 90

I believe that 2012 was by far his best year as a Sounder. He was named to MLS Best XI for first time in his career after a stellar season. He led the team with 30 starts and compiled a team-high 2,688 minutes in regular season play.  He was named 2012 U.S. Open Cup Player of the Tournament after scoring four goals and two assists in four games, including two game winners. He scored five goals and had five assists while leading the team with 42 starts and 3,749 minutes across all competitions.

Alonso has earned three All-Star selections in his five-year MLS career as well as being voted team MVP in 2010 & 2011.

He is one of two players that mean so much to the Sounders and I hate to think how this team would look without him patrolling the mid-field and causing chaos as only the honey badger can do.

Author’s Note: I’m sure that you will not agree with some of the player I put on the list. There is ever a possibility that you may not agree with it at all. It is my list and these are my five favorite Sounders players to wear Rave Green since 2009. If you disagree or think I unjustly left someone out, please comment below and let me know.
