It seems like whenever there is a rumored upper level signing thinking about MLS, New York City’s names will be in the hat so this will be no different. There have been rumors floating around that New York City FC is looking to add a third DP to their lineup and they want this one to be an American. Could Mix Diskerud be that player?

Let’s take a look at their other two DP signings first. They have signed David Villa, known for his goal scoring abilities and Frank Lampard, who plays in the center of the midfield similar to where Mix Diskerud plays. I do not know if that would shy NYCFC away from Diskerud, my guess is no, but it might.

  • With where Diskerud has featured for the USMNT as of late, it is possible New York City may go after him as a deeper lying playmaker, one with more defensive responsibilities than Lampard may have. There is also no saying that New York City cannot have Diskerud and Lampard play next to each other and have both look to find David Villa.

Now New York City has stated interest to find another player to play alongside David Villa which could make this discussion of Diskerud moot, but it is definitely an interesting possibility to consider. Signing Diskerud would have to make NYCFC’s midfield one of if not the best in the league right off the bat.

I do not believe he will sign here, but when a team is backed by the same group that owns Manchester City, you can never rule them out.
