2015 Mock MLS Superdraft

facebooktwitterreddit

This Thursday, January 15th, MLS undergoes the next step in its preparation for the 2015 season.  Barring academy players, every college player with dreams of playing at America and/or Canada’s highest level must enter through the draft.  This year features franchises New York City and Orlando City for the first time, making this a landmark in both teams’ development as well.  For struggling franchises like Montreal, Chicago, and San Jose, this draft presents an incredible opportunity to turn it around.  Teams like Sporting KC and Toronto FC both have three picks, and can bolster multiple positions before the first round concludes.

No matter who you cheer for, MLS SuperDraft is a big date in the calendar year.  With a draft class incredibly deep at Goalkeeper, Forward, and Centre-Back, this draft could be one of the more entertaining and suspenseful in recent history.  That being said, let’s see who our PlayingFor90 community and a special guest or two predicted to go in the first round.

Orlando City SC

Needs: F, FB, RW

New York City FC

Needs: G, CM, AM, CB, FB

Montreal Impact

Needs: CB, F, FB

San Jose Earthquakes

Needs: D, CDM, F

Portland Timbers [Traded w/ Rapids]

Needs: F, FB, G, RW, LW

Toronto FC [Traded w/ Chivas USA (defunct)]

Needs: F, CAM, D, G

Toronto faced many problems last year, most of them revolving around depth and short term solutions to long term problems.  Luckily for them, their main problem seems to be…everywhere.  Which makes drafting so much easier since all one must do is literally take the most talented man on the board.

If Toronto is as close to signing Jozy Altidore as they say they are, a target forward may not be what the doctor ordered.  No matter, Williams is a versatile attacker whom many predicted would be moved to the wing in MLS anyways.  Williams possesses a cool head, and is a natural leader; something the Reds sorely lacked last season.
