Playing for 90 Top 5 Goals of the Week: 2/8-2/15
3.) Alex Morgan (USA 1-0 England)
All it took was one well-placed cross followed by an even better placed header to make the USWNT forget all about their French woes. A Lauren Holiday cross was finished off by the electrifying Morgan to give the WNT a 1-0 victory over England’s women’s team. The goal came mere days after the WNT fell 2-0 to France. The result put some doubts in the WNT’s faithful, and with the World Cup approaching rapidly, doubts aren’t always a great thing. However, the American’s winning ways were immediately restored not too long after that with a strong showing vs. England, and the American Outlaws can once again sleep soundly.
The Stars and Stripes have 8 matches left on 2 separate continents before they open up World Cup group play in Winnipeg vs. Australia this July. 3 of those matches are a part of the Algarve Cup, being played in Portugal. The WNT have been drawn with Norway, Iceland and Switzerland for the tournament, and open up play in THAT tournament on March 4th in Vila Real De San Antonio.
