Chelsea took the lead twice against Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League action and looked to come away victorious. However, an extra-time goal off the head of Thiago Silva sent PSG to the next round, and spoiled Chelsea’s plans and their fans’ night.

Thiago Silva’s header in extra time sent the visiting Paris Saint-Germain past EPL side Chelsea. While the match ended 2-2 on aggregate after 120 minutes of play, PSG advanced thanks to away goals. Impressively, PSG spent almost 90 minutes down a man as Zlatan Ibrahimovic was shown a straight red card early on for his reckless tackle on Oscar.

The match will be most remembered by poor officiating, but the three non-penalty kick goals are worth rewatching.

Although the score remained scoreless for almost 80 minutes, the game was filled with many entertaining and worthwhile moments. Chelsea finally broke the scoring drought on play more likely to be seen on a volleyball court. The ball was passed, then set up nicely, and Cahill shot (spiked) the ball into the back of the net on a wide-open attempt.

After Chelsea found the game’s first goal with time winding down, former Chelsea player David Luiz headed home an equalizer off the crossbar. The goal game off a successfully executed corner kick opportunity.

90 minutes of soccer was not enough for the two juggernauts. In extra time Silva was called for a clear hand ball five minutes in. After a match filled with many controversial no-calls, the referee correctly called the clear penalty. Silva lacked judgment by raising his hands so high.

Moments later Eden Hazard stepped up to the penalty spot and buried the goal. This put Chelsea ahead, but that lead did not last for long.

With time winding down and it appearing Chelsea would advance past PSG, Silva and the visitors had other ideas. Off the corner kick, Silva found space and sent a looping header past Chelsea’s keeper and in. No matter how many defenders were on the line that ball was destined for the back of the net.

It was a great victory for PSG on the road as they played down a man for almost 90 minutes. They now await their next Champions League opponent after coming away victorious in an instant classic no one will forget anytime soon.
