The Premier League Game of Thrones
By Ryan Wrenn
José Mourinho – Chelsea
Projected Finish: 1st
How’d he do?
Mourinho’s Chelsea won the Capital One Cup and are the presumptive title winners with five games to spare. A nearly immaculate first half of the season saw star turns from newcomers Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa. The club’s luster seems to have faded over the last couple months however, compelling Mourinho to resort to some more pragmatic tactics. While Manchester City’s recent collapse has eased the pressure significantly, there’s no doubt that Mourinho would have prefered more consistent performances from his players.
Season Highlight: Last weekend’s 1-0 win against a seemingly unstoppable Manchester United.
Season Lowlight: The 2-2 Champions League knockout round home draw against Paris Saint Germain that saw them eliminated from the competition.
Future?
In. It’s safe to assume that Mourinho’s fate at Chelsea is in his own hands. Already a club legend due to his first stint with the club in the mid ‘00s, the past two seasons have begun to live up to high expectations. Mourinho will no doubt try to replicate his excellent recruitment from last summer to help ensure that Chelsea will retain the Premier League title while also competing in Europe.
