Arsenal player ratings: Alexis Sanchez and Per Mertesacker shine in FA Cup Final

The world-class midfielder was at the top of his game in this one, shaking off a few errant passes early in the game to provide an important performance in Arsenal’s four-goal assault of Shay Given’s goal. Ozil didn’t officially have an assist, but he might as well have because of the number of dangerous passes and through-balls he played in. He always manages to work in some nice touches with fellow star Alexis Sanchez, and the German midfielder was always looking to cross it into the box.

Ozil looked lively and worked hard throughout the game, popping up on the left, right, and in the center. He was just too classy on the ball for the Aston Villa defense as well, as he consistently used his excellent dribbling to open up space. Quietly orchestrating the spacing of the offense with specifically timed and placed passes is Ozil’s forte, and he and Cazorla simply bossed the opposition at will.
