Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a better holding midfielder than Sergio Busquets, whose sensational display against Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, Pogba, and Marchisio will go somewhat underrated in our efforts to praise the likes of Neymar and Andres Iniesta for their work in Barcelona’s attack.
But as always, Busquets deserves massive plaudits for his savvy, and it’s hard to find a better tactician on the field than the Spanish international, who pesters the opposition to frustration. He certainly frustrated some with a first-half flop, but the focus needs to be on his work as Barca’s metronome in midfield. According to WhoScored.com, he completed an astounding 95.4% of his passes, and he simply put Juventus’s world-class midfielders to shame with a quietly elite display.
