Each season of the Champions League somehow manages to feel different and special. It is by some measure the best club competition in the world – sorry Club World Cup – and it never fails to have its fair share of surprises and devastation. If the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A are the weekly grind, the Champions League is the night out on the town to release all that pent up pressure and aggression. The best teams field their best players to win the best reward, not only in the form of a trophy and prestige, but also a ridiculous pay out.
