Blues to Complete Falcao Move

Chelsea have completed the signing of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, according to reports. Blues chief Jose Mourinho revealed last week that he is interested in adding the Colombian international, 29, to his star studded squad.

The Special One said: “If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it. It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United.”

Portuguese newspaper Record claim the Premier League champions struck an agreement to land the former Porto and Atletico Madrid striker, who is being tracked by Liverpool, on Saturday evening.

The publication also claim the deal will be announced by both parties early next week. Falcao has made 344 club appearances in his career and has found the back of the net a staggering 204 times.

Van Persie Promises to Fight for United Future

Robin van Persie will fight for his Manchester United future and says he will not accept being a bit-part player, report the Daily Mirror.  Van Persie’s future remains unclear, with United willing to listen to offers for the striker, 31, who has struggled since his 30-goal debut season at Old Trafford. He has one season left on his current deal and insists he can still deliver at the highest level.

“Am I worried?” said van Persie. “No, I’m totally relaxed. I have a contract with this club until 2016. Things could change now, but that all depends on Manchester United not me. Believe me, I’m relaxed – I’m not going to be part of a puppet show.

“In August I’m 32. But I still have the ambition to play for another eight years. In a few years’ time I may have to accept that I will no longer play at the very highest level. I don’t think that moment is coming now. I still feel very, very fit”, said the Dutch striker.

Man City Defiant in Light of FFP Worries

The Manchester Evening News claim that Manchester City will spend big this summer, despite any worries over FFP sanctions. The Blues are in the hunt for Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne to pep up their squad next season.

They have been given a financial lift by the expectation that the punishments imposed last season – a transfer spending cap and limit on the size of their Champions League squad – will be lifted as they kept within the £14.5m deficit limit which was imposed as a condition.

They were further heartened by news that UEFA intend to relax their financial fair play (FFP) rules, which would allow a degree of investment by owners. That move came after complaints from Continental clubs like AC Milan and Inter Milan that the huge TV deal signed by English sides was in danger of pricing them out of the market – and also by several legal challenges to the old FFP rules.

Austin in Demand

The London Evening Standard report that West Ham have joined the race to sign the highly coveted striker Charlie Austin. Charlie Austin is wanted by Southampton as well as Newcastle United with relegated Queen’s Park Rangers looking for a fee of £15m from the transfer of their most saleable asset.

Newcastle have a longstanding interest in Austin, 25, currently with the England senior squad in Slovenia for the Euro 2016 qualifier this afternoon. Newcastle’s scouting department had identified Austin as a prime target before the appointment last week of Steve McClaren, who considers the player as his first choice.

The player whose rise from non-league Poole Town to 18 goals in his first Premier League season has attracted widespread interest.
