FIFA World Cup Qualifying Draw: What did we Learn?
By Chris Jones
United States should have a simple route to Russia
The United States was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the World Cup qualifying draw, being put into a round 4 group with Trinidad and Tobago along with the winners of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines/Aruba and Anitgua and Barbuda/Guatemala.
While Trinidad and Tobago did put in a pretty impressive showing in this year’s Gold Cup, making it to the quarterfinals, but the United States should have a simple road to the fifth round of qualifying, famously known as “The Hex”.
I say they should make it easily into the next round because we have seen that the United States team likes to make things difficult on themselves, and they have been on a poor run of form lately.
United States soccer fans have been in turmoil after the poor results in the Gold Cup, and have gone far enough to say that they might not qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
Step off the ledge.
Struggles aside, the U.S. is going up against lesser competition, and shouldn’t have too much trouble navigating their way through this round of qualifying.
