Premier League: Five Talking Points From the Opening Weekend

Bournemouth Deserved More
Saturday’s game against Aston Villa was Bournemouth’s first English top flight appearance in their 125 year history. Eddie Howe’s side came out on the pitch ready to play and, for the most part, held their own at Tim Sherwood’s reworked Villa side. Declining to be intimidated by their new competition, they surged forward in attack almost in equal measure to Villa. By all rights they deserved a goal before Rudy Gestede sent a header past Artur Boruc to seal the victory for Villa. Matt Ritchie and Simon Francis contained Villa’s left flank extremely competently while Andrew Surman dominated the midfield area. Despite the loss, Bournemouth look like a team that should have no trouble competing at this level over the rest of the season.
