Manchester United isn’t the right club for everyone. Nor is it the right club for Louis Van Gaal

Manchester United fans are beginning to question whether or not manager Louis Van Gaal is the right fit for their distinguished club. The more interesting question is whether or not Manchester United is the right club for Van Gaal.

Reports are beginning to trickle out about anonymous United players beginning to grumble about Van Gaal behind closed doors. This can’t come as a great surprise to anyone. Manchester United fans and various national pundits have been complaining about Van Gaal for some time. They’ve grown tired of his “boring” style of play and penchant for lateral and backwards passing. It certainly is a significant departure from the vaunted “United Way” that features attacking and flair galore.

It’s pretty obvious at this point that Van Gaal isn’t a perfect fit for Manchester United. They are a club that demands a certain style of play and he isn’t going to deliver that type of offense. He is a rigid, but effective manager who will win a lot of matches, but won’t sacrifice anything for the sake of stylish football. He isn’t going to change his philosophy an inch no matter how many fans complain on match day.

Manchester United just isn’t the right place for Van Gaal. He doesn’t need to be at a club that isn’t satisfied with the results he can provide. He would be best served at a club that is starved for success. That way he could implement his philosophy with no real concern for what anyone else thought. He needs a club where he can be a dictator with absolute power.

Let me be clear, I don’t blame Van Gaal for being the way that he is. I don’t even mean dictator as a negative term. He just needs to be in a place where he is beyond reproach and question. Old Trafford is not that type of place.

There are too many legends, players and fans with opinions that resonate with one another. It’s not a place for a manager to have absolute power.

Not even Sir Alex Ferguson consolidated that much power at United. Van Gaal, who admittedly will only be at the club for a fixed amount of time has no hope to grab hold of all the influence at the club. He just isn’t going to be there long enough to succeed at winning over the hearts and minds of all associated with the Club.

Louis Van Gaal will win his share of matches at Manchester United. He will never be loved or even liked by many of those at the club because he isn’t interested in winning them over. He is consumed only with results. That means Manchester United just isn’t the right club for him.
