Christian Benteke-Liverpool

We’ve reached the point in the list where I think the arguments start to get a lot tougher. I’m higher than Benteke than most (possibly including his manager Jurgen Klopp), but understand that many will disagree with taking him over Vardy.

Benteke is the Premier League’s best “throwback” striker. He’s a true target man who is a bull in the box and can be completely devastating with his head. He requires constant attention when he’s lurking in the box because if you switch off for a second, you’ll be picking the ball up out of the back of the net.

Some Premier League fans believe that Benteke is just a hulking target in the box without very much football skill but that’s flat wrong. He scores a lot of goals with his head, but is adept at finishing with either foot as well. If you think of him as just a rich man’s Andy Carroll then you need to spend some more time watching the talented Belgian. He’s a lot more than a plodding front man who only contributes with his head.

I do confess that choosing between Vardy and Benteke is a tough decision. It also comes down to a question of style as well. If you want pace up top you will likely prefer Vardy but if you want a more well-rounded option, you simply have to take Benteke.
