The January transfer window

Liverpool figures to be one of the busiest clubs during the upcoming transfer window. Jurgen Klopp will be anxious to bring in some more of “his players” and it’s likely a few men who don’t fit his style will be shipped out. Even though I think the transactions will be a great positive at Anfield in the long run, it’s going to cause enough unrest to derail any Premier League title challenge this season.

First, there is the problem of transfer rumors unsettling the squad. The players are smart enough to know that change is coming and whether they are rumored to be on their way out, or have someone coming in to challenge for their position it’s going to be stressful. The Robert Lewandowski rumors alone will be enough to drive most of Liverpool’s attacking players crazy.

There’s also the challenge of integrating new players into the squad upon their January arrival. There will almost assuredly be real quality coming into the team, but bedding them in with the current players is going to take some time. There are going to be bumps in the road while trying to weave new players into a team that’s playing so well. This could cost Liverpool precious points as they try to get everyone up to full speed.

The January transfer window is likely to be great fun for Liverpool fans, but very stressful for their current and incoming players. Don’t be surprised if it derails them from their run of form at least for a couple of weeks. That blip could be enough to cost them valuable Premier League points.
