5 potential replacements for Jose Mourinho at Chelsea
It’s only a matter of time before Chelsea moves on from manager Jose Mourinho
Rumors were flying today after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Bournemouth that Jose Mourinho wouldn’t coach another match at the club. Those rumors proved to be false, but most would agree that he’s a dead man walking at Stamford Bridge.
That means it’s time to start thinking of who might replace the “Special One” for the defending Premier League champions. No matter their struggles this season, Chelsea is still a massive club. They have a ton of resources and a lot of talent still on the books. It will be a sought after managerial position to be sure.
The position isn’t without its challenges though. The expectations are sky-high no matter who the manager is. Ownership spends a ton of money and they expect silverware. Still, most managers that Chelsea will consider have no shortage of self-belief. This won’t be a significant impediment to finding a potential manager.
The one issue that may give potential managers pause is the politics of the Chelsea dressing room. There have been rumors all season of a backroom mutiny against Mourinho, and it’ll be really difficult for the next manager to win over the squad. The roster is stocked full of talent, but it’s stocked full of strong personalities as well. Some of those personalities can be quite a handful for a manager.
Mourinho isn’t gone yet, but it’ll be a surprise if he makes it through the season. Let’s examine five potential replacements for Mourinho at Chelsea.
