Carlo Ancelotti

The former Real Madrid manager would likely open up as the odds-on favorite to replace Mourinho if the job became available. He certainly fits the definition of an “obvious choice” to take over at Chelsea.

Many fans of Los Blancos wish he was still in Madrid. It’s not as if he wasn’t successful there either. He was fired in a very controversial decision that seemed to be more about the personalities at the club than any issue on the pitch.

He could waltz into the Chelsea team and command instant respect amongst all the players. He’s one of the few people available to the club who can make that claim. That combined with his track record of trophy winning would make him a very attractive candidate.

The one thing I’d be concerned with is does Ancelotti’s fire still burn hot enough to turn things around at Chelsea. This isn’t a well oiled machine that needs a caretaker, it’s a club in need of significant change. I do wonder whether or not Ancelotti has the engine to oversee that type of overhaul at this point in his career.

Still, Chelsea is a club that is focused on winning silverware and Ancelotti is a manager who has a CV full of trophies. Chelsea could do a lot worse in their search for a new manager.
